Ex-F1 Driver Antonio Pizzonia Arrested in Texas After Son's Kart Race
Ex-F1 Driver Antonio Pizzonia Arrested in Texas

Former Formula One driver Antonio Pizzonia traveled to Texas with a clear purpose. He wanted to support his son at a major junior karting competition. The weekend promised family bonding and racing excitement. By Saturday evening, however, the trip took a shocking turn.

Arrest Follows Son's Race

Authorities in Montgomery County, Texas, arrested Antonio Pizzonia on an assault charge. The arrest happened around 6 pm on Saturday. Police booked the 45-year-old Brazilian into the local jail. A mugshot from the arrest quickly circulated online.

The circumstances leading to the charge remain unclear. Law enforcement has not released official details about the incident. No public statement explains what prompted the arrest.

Family Weekend Interrupted

Pizzonia was in Texas for the 2026 Superkarts! USA Winter Series. His son, Antonio Pizzonia Neto, raced in the X30 Junior category at Speedsportz Racing Park. Neto finished ninth in a competitive field with young drivers from across the country.

The arrest occurred just hours after the race ended. It abruptly concluded what should have been a proud moment for the father. Days earlier, Pizzonia celebrated New Year with his family in Orlando, Florida. Social media posts showed him welcoming 2026 with his children before the Texas trip.

Pizzonia's Racing Career

Antonio Pizzonia competed in Formula One between 2003 and 2005. He drove for the Jaguar and Williams teams. His F1 debut came with Jaguar, but he lost his seat mid-season after failing to score points. Williams then gave him an opportunity.

Pizzonia substituted for the injured Ralf Schumacher during several races. He collected eight championship points over two seasons with Williams. Although his Formula One career was brief, he remained active in motorsport.

Success Beyond Formula One

Pizzonia achieved notable success in other racing series. He won the championship in the 2015 Auto GP World Series. More recently, he claimed victories in the Open Class of the BOSS GP. He triumphed in both 2023 and 2024.

His extensive racing resume includes appearances in multiple series. He competed in Champ Car, Superleague Formula, Stock Car Brasil, and the FIA GT1 World Championship. Pizzonia established himself as a versatile and experienced driver long after his F1 days.
