A serious crash involving multiple cyclists disrupted Stage 1 of the Pune Grand Tour on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred within the first hour of the race, causing injuries to several riders and forcing a temporary halt to the competition.
Race Paused Near Kolvan Village
The crash happened near Kolvan village, approximately at the quarter-way mark of the 91-kilometer route. Race officials immediately paused the event at the crash location to allow medical teams to respond. Accompanying ambulances quickly reached the scene to provide first aid and medical assistance to the affected cyclists.
An official explained the sequence of events clearly. "The race was paused near the point of the crash near Kolvan village, around the quarter-way mark of the 91-km route. Multiple cyclists involved in the crash were tended to by the accompanying ambulances. The race was resumed with all cyclists having to begin afresh from that point," the official stated.
Organizers Follow UCI Safety Protocols
Pune Grand Tour organizers released a detailed statement about the incident. They confirmed the crash involved riders in the second group of the peloton during Stage 1. Following Union Cycliste Internationale safety protocols, race officials temporarily neutralized the competition as a precautionary measure.
The statement emphasized their commitment to rider safety. "UCI officials and the event medical team responded immediately. All affected riders are currently receiving the necessary medical checks, and technical teams are attending to the bicycles involved. Rider safety remains the highest priority for the organizers, officials, and the UCI. Further updates will be shared as appropriate," the organizers added.

Medical teams provided immediate care to the injured cyclists at the crash site. Organizers confirmed that all affected riders received necessary medical checks following the incident.
