Vizag MP Aims for Pre-Monsoon Completion of All Seven Bhogapuram Airport Access Roads
In a significant development for infrastructure in Visakhapatnam, Member of Parliament M Sribharat has declared that all seven priority roads connecting to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport are targeted for completion before the onset of the monsoon season. This announcement follows a personal inspection by the MP, along with VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal and VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat, of the ongoing construction works on key approach roads designed to facilitate hassle-free travel from various parts of the city to the airport.
National Highway Status and Progress Updates
M Sribharat confirmed that all roads, except the Adavivaram-Sontyam stretch, have received approval for National Highway connectivity. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance travel convenience for the public by improving road quality and accessibility. Efforts are actively underway to secure a positive decision for the remaining Adavivaram-Sontyam stretch as well, with the MP expressing confidence that necessary clearances from state and central governments will be obtained soon.
The road connectivity projects, jointly undertaken by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), and the Roads & Buildings Department, are progressing at a fast pace. Key updates include:
- The 6.3-kilometer road stretch from Thimmapuram to Marikavalasa is nearing completion.
- The six-lane main road from Adavivaram to Sontyam is anticipated to become a crucial connectivity corridor for the city, pending forest land clearances.
- The Nerellavalasa-Kothavalasa road is 65% complete and expected to be finished by the end of April.
- The four-lane road from Boyapalem to Kapuluppada has reached 66% completion and is also likely to be ready by the end of April.
Additional Road Developments and Timelines
Further infrastructure enhancements are in the pipeline, with the Bheemili-Dorathota road slated for development to a width of 100 feet. Since this project falls under the jurisdiction of the Roads & Buildings Department, the tender process is currently underway, which may introduce some delays. In the Pendurthi constituency, road works on the Vepagunta-Pendurthi route are being executed by VMRDA and GVMC, with a target completion date set for the end of May. Additionally, the road works from Vepagunta to Juttada are expected to be completed by June.
VMRDA Commissioner Tej Bharat emphasised that with robust support in land acquisition, construction permissions, and public cooperation, the works are advancing swiftly. He noted that necessary compensation and alternative arrangements are being provided to minimise inconvenience to the public, while major bridge construction works are progressing simultaneously. All road works under VMRDA jurisdiction are being expedited to ensure they are finished before the monsoon season begins, ensuring smoother and more reliable access to the Bhogapuram International Airport for residents and travelers alike.
