In a sharp political attack, actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay has claimed that his party's adversaries, in a veiled reference to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), are rattled by TVK's successful public meetings and are beginning to reveal their true nature. The statement, issued on December 24, directly targets the DMK leadership and its historical political stance.
TVK's Rise and DMK's Alleged Panic
Vijay stated that after what he called an unsuccessful conspiracy to undermine his fledgling party, the TVK witnessed three successful public gatherings in Kanchipuram, Puducherry, and Erode. He asserted that the sight of people standing with the TVK has unsettled those who wished to shut the party down. "Those who wanted to shut us down are rattled upon seeing the people standing with us," Vijay claimed in his hard-hitting communiqué from Chennai.
He took strong exception to an editorial piece in the DMK's official organ, Murasoli, accusing it of attempting to defame and bring disrepute to the TVK. This, according to Vijay, is part of the unmasking process of his political opponents.
Direct Fire at CM Stalin and Historical Allegations
Launching a personal critique, Vijay said, "The leader of their party, the Chief Minister (M K Stalin), talks and throws stones, forgetting that he is standing in front of the mirror." He further escalated his accusations by delving into the DMK's political past.
Vijay alleged that the DMK had confused the people with a so-called 'common minimum agenda' and, in doing so, had become a "slave" from 1999 to 2003 during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) regime at the Centre. His most significant charge was that the Dravidian major "ensured the Lotus to bloom in Tamil Nadu," directly blaming the DMK for creating conditions favorable for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whose election symbol is the lotus.
Call to Action for TVK Cadres
Concluding his statement with a rallying cry, Vijay advised members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to disregard the DMK's "rhetoric and monologues." He urged them to instead join hands with the people and convince them that the TVK is the only party qualified to strive for their cause. This positioning aims to establish the TVK as the primary alternative for the electorate, sidelining both the DMK and its rivals.
The statement marks a significant intensification in Vijay's political rhetoric, moving from indirect references to direct accusations against the ruling establishment in Tamil Nadu. It sets the stage for a more confrontational approach as the TVK seeks to cement its space in the state's competitive political landscape.
