Uttarkashi Locals Urge Immediate Halt to Blasting for Tehsil Building Construction

In Uttarkashi, building owners from the Bhatwadi area have made an urgent appeal to the Public Works Department, demanding an immediate cessation of all blasting activities currently being conducted as part of the construction of the new tehsil building. The residents have raised significant concerns, highlighting the severe risks these explosive operations pose to the structural integrity of houses located in the immediate vicinity.

Residents Voice Grave Concerns Over Structural Threats

The affected local residents, including Abhishek Ramola, Jagannath Prasad Nautiyal, Sunil Nautiyal, Ankit Semwal, and Suraj Nautiyal, have come forward to express their deep apprehensions. They report that extensive leveling work is actively underway at the construction site, and the accompanying blasting procedures present a serious and imminent danger to the surrounding residential structures.

These residents emphasized a critical point: many of the families living in these potentially endangered homes were originally allotted this land following displacement. They issued a stark warning, stating that any damage inflicted upon their properties due to the construction blasting would inevitably lead to major and complex problems for the community.

Demands for Safer Alternatives and Accountability

The collective demand from the Bhatwadi residents is clear and firm. They are insisting that the Public Works Department must abandon the current blasting method and instead adopt safer, more controlled alternatives for the construction work. Furthermore, they have made it unequivocally clear that the department will be held fully responsible for any and all damage caused to their homes and properties as a result of these activities.

PWD Responds with Official Notice and Warning

In response to these growing concerns, PWD Executive Engineer Naveen Lal Verma provided an official update. He confirmed that the department has indeed received a formal complaint from the residents regarding the blasting issue. Acting on this complaint, the PWD has issued a direct notice to the contractor overseeing the tehsil building project.

The notice explicitly directs the contractor to immediately stop all blasting work at the site. Engineer Verma added a strong warning, stating that if the contractor fails to comply and the blasting practice continues, the Public Works Department will not hesitate to take strict and decisive action against them.
