Uttar Pradesh Government Denies Fuel and LPG Shortages, Launches Crackdown on Rumors
In response to widespread panic buying and black marketing of LPG cylinders triggered by the ongoing Middle East crisis, the Uttar Pradesh government issued a firm statement on Wednesday, asserting that there is no shortage of domestic cylinders, petrol, or diesel across the state.
Chief Minister's Directives Against Hoarding and Rumors
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a proactive stance, instructing officials to aggressively combat rumour-mongering, hoarding, and black marketing of essential items. He emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of the petrol, diesel, and domestic gas supply chains to ensure seamless availability.
"We are carrying out continuous monitoring at the district level to keep the supply system transparent and organised," a government spokesperson stated. "The government is appealing to citizens not to pay heed to rumors and only trust official information. There is adequate availability of petrol-diesel and LPG cylinders in the state."
State-Wide Inspections and Enforcement Actions
Following the chief minister's directives, district administrations and supply department teams have launched extensive inspections and raids spanning from Noida to Gorakhpur. These efforts aim to detect and prevent any instances of hoarding or black marketing of fuel and cooking gas.
- Enforcement teams and magistrates conducted rigorous checks at petrol pumps and LPG agencies, including key locations in Gautam Budh Nagar.
- The administration and police have intensified their oversight of fuel pumping stations and gas agencies to maintain supply integrity.
Government Condemns Misleading Social Media Rumors
The government has attributed the panic largely to misleading and false information circulating on social media platforms. Officials have warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found spreading such rumors, underscoring the commitment to public order and accurate information dissemination.
"These rumors are completely false and should be ignored," the spokesperson reiterated, highlighting the government's resolve to protect consumers from unnecessary anxiety and market manipulation.
Adjustments in LPG Cylinder Booking Procedures
In a related development, officials have announced a change in the booking process for domestic LPG cylinder refills. The minimum waiting period has been extended from 21 days to 25 days, a measure implemented to streamline distribution and manage demand effectively amidst the current geopolitical tensions.
This adjustment is part of broader efforts to ensure that supply chains remain robust and responsive to consumer needs, even as global events like the Middle East crisis create external pressures.
