Rudrapur: Two sisters died and several others were injured after a speeding car ploughed into pedestrians on the Sitarganj–Kichha highway in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, police said Wednesday.
Hina (22) and Nisha (25) of Nayagaon had gone shopping with their cousin Ruby ahead of their brother’s wedding. The accident occurred when they alighted from an e-rickshaw and were paying the driver. A car lost control while overtaking, hitting the rickshaw and those nearby.
Hina died at the sub-district hospital, while Nisha succumbed during treatment in Rudrapur. Ruby and four others were injured. Police said the vehicles involved have been seized and CCTV footage is being examined to trace the absconding driver.
The tragic incident has left the family devastated, as they were preparing for a joyous occasion. Authorities have launched a search for the driver, who fled the scene after the accident. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
