Two Killed, Five Injured in Head-On Collision on Ludhiana-Ferozepur Road
A devastating head-on collision on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road near Sheikhupura village has claimed two lives and left five others with serious injuries. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday when a Maruti Ritz car and a Maruti Swift car collided violently, resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles.
Details of the Accident
According to police reports, the accident was triggered when the rear tyre of the Maruti Ritz car, which was traveling from Moga towards Ludhiana, burst suddenly near Sheikhupura village. This caused the driver to lose control, leading the car to cross the road divider and crash head-on into the oncoming Maruti Swift.
The impact of the collision was severe, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage. Local residents had to use rods to break the windows and rescue the trapped occupants, highlighting the urgency and chaos at the scene.
Casualties and Injuries
The deceased have been identified as Gaudin, a 35-year-old driver of the Swift car who died on the spot, and Sirjadin, a 30-year-old passenger in the same vehicle who succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital. Both victims were residents of Ludhiana.
The injured individuals include Harshdeep Singh and Devkaran Singh, occupants of the Ritz car, as well as Laldin, Mamusain, and Shanu, occupants of the Swift car. All injured parties were admitted to various hospitals in Ludhiana for medical care.
Background and Family Statements
It was revealed that the victims were on their way to Moga to attend a feast when the tragedy struck. Sipaiya, a resident of Khasi Kalan and brother of the deceased Sirjadin, shared that Sirjadin is survived by three daughters and a son. He expressed that the family does not wish to take any legal action against anyone involved.
Gaudin, who worked as a milkman, leaves behind four sons and a daughter, adding to the profound loss experienced by the families.
Postmortem and Legal Proceedings
In a related development, the families of the deceased initially refused to allow a postmortem and attempted to take one of the bodies from the Civil Hospital mortuary in a vehicle. However, police authorities intervened, explaining that in road accident cases, bodies can only be released after completing all legal formalities, including a mandatory postmortem.
The police have seized both damaged vehicles and registered a case to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Further inquiries are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances and any potential contributing factors.
