In a successful operation, the Kurukshetra police apprehended two individuals involved in drug peddling on Tuesday. The arrests were made in the Shahabad area, where the suspects were found in possession of a significant quantity of heroin and cash. The police team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid and nabbed the accused red-handed.

Details of the Arrest

The accused have been identified as Ravi and Sonu, both residents of Shahabad. According to police officials, the duo was involved in the illegal sale of narcotics in the region. During the search, the police recovered 10 grams of heroin and Rs 5,000 in cash from their possession. The value of the seized heroin is estimated to be around Rs 50,000 in the illicit market.

Legal Proceedings

The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Shahabad police station. The accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and identify other members of the network.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kurukshetra, Mr. Simardeep Singh, praised the team for their swift action. He reiterated the police department's commitment to curbing drug abuse in the district. "We are taking strict measures against drug peddlers, and such operations will continue in the future," he said.

Local residents have welcomed the arrests, expressing relief that the police are actively tackling the drug menace. Many hope that this will deter others from engaging in such illegal activities.
