In a strategic move to address persistent criticism that the Tamil Nadu political landscape revolves excessively around its charismatic founder, the Vijayakanth-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has launched a comprehensive state-wide election campaign without placing actor-politician Vijay at the forefront. This initiative marks a significant departure from the party's previous approaches and aims to demonstrate its organizational depth beyond a single personality.

Campaign Structure and Initial Launch

The newly formed campaign panel, meticulously divided into different teams, is set to conduct a series of rallies and public meetings across all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu over the coming two weeks. This structured effort underscores the party's commitment to grassroots engagement and systematic outreach.

The campaign officially commenced with a pivotal meeting held at the YMCA in Royapettah, Chennai, on Wednesday. Spearheaded by senior leader KA Sengottaiyan, the panel will collaborate closely with district-level functionaries and potential candidates, ensuring a cohesive and unified message is delivered throughout the state.

Targeting DMK's Chennai Fortress

During the launch, TVK joint general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar launched a scathing critique of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), particularly focusing on its governance in Chennai. He highlighted longstanding issues that have plagued the city despite substantial financial investments.

"For years, the DMK has claimed Chennai as its impregnable fortress but has consistently failed to deliver tangible results for its residents," Kumar asserted. He pointed to severe flooding problems that persist even after the allocation of approximately Rs 5,000 crore for stormwater drain projects, the continued reliance on motor pumps for water management, and the conspicuous absence of active corporation councillors addressing civic concerns.

In a bold prediction, Kumar suggested that the political landscape in Chennai might witness significant shifts. "Given the widespread discontent and our growing support base, it would not be surprising if even prominent DMK leaders like Chief Minister MK Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi consider changing their constituencies, as Chennai is poised to vote decisively in favor of TVK in the upcoming elections," he remarked confidently.

Political Strategy and Rivalry Focus

Addressing queries about the party's subdued response to recent attacks from the AIADMK, Kumar clarified TVK's strategic positioning. He emphasized that the party regards only the DMK as its primary political rival in the current electoral context.

"We see no compelling need to engage extensively with parties that lack a substantial presence on the ground or fail to resonate with the aspirations of Tamil Nadu's voters," Kumar explained, underscoring TVK's focused approach towards challenging the incumbent government directly.

Vijay's Planned Involvement

While the initial phase of the campaign deliberately excludes Vijay from the forefront, party sources have confirmed that the founder is scheduled to join the electoral outreach efforts subsequently. His participation is expected to commence from Salem, following the conclusion of the panel's district-wide tour.

Vijay's involvement will include participation in three major public meetings and a significant party conference, strategically timed to maximize impact and mobilize support as the election season intensifies. This phased approach allows the party to highlight its collective strength before leveraging Vijay's popular appeal in key rallies.

The TVK's campaign rollout represents a nuanced electoral strategy, balancing organizational visibility with star power, as it seeks to carve a substantial niche in Tamil Nadu's competitive political arena ahead of crucial state polls.
