Tripura Witnesses Significant Decline in Crime Rates During 2025
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that the state has experienced a substantial reduction in crime during the year 2025. Speaking at the Police Week parade, Saha credited this positive development to the dedicated efforts of the Tripura Police force and the strategic implementation of advanced technological tools in law enforcement operations.
Statistical Improvements Across Multiple Crime Categories
The Chief Minister presented detailed statistics showing that overall registered criminal cases dropped from 4,033 in 2024 to 3,698 in 2025, representing an 8.20 percent decline year-over-year. Particularly noteworthy was the reduction in crimes targeting women, which decreased by 8.1 percent during the same period.
"The state has made remarkable progress compared to the past two decades," Saha emphasized during his address. "Our law enforcement agencies must continuously evolve to match changing criminal methodologies through skill enhancement and technological advancement."
Enhanced Women's Safety Infrastructure
To further strengthen protections for women, the Tripura government has implemented comprehensive safety measures across the state. These include establishing 24/7 women's help desks in every police station and creating nine all-women police stations distributed throughout various districts. The Chief Minister personally conducts frequent reviews of progress reports to ensure these initiatives maintain their effectiveness.
Road Safety Initiatives Yield Positive Results
Under the innovative "Zero Accident Programme," authorities launched a specialized traffic control initiative that has produced measurable improvements in road safety. Police identified and addressed 16 accident black spots and 84 accident-prone areas across Tripura, deploying interceptor vehicles in every district as part of this comprehensive strategy.
The results have been significant, with road accidents decreasing by 8.82 percent and fatalities falling by 13 percent compared to the previous year's statistics.
Intensified Action Against Drug-Related Offenses
Reiterating the government's firm stance against narcotics, Saha reported that enforcement actions under the NDPS Act have been substantially intensified. While this led to an 11.06 percent increase in registered NDPS cases, the Chief Minister clarified that this reflects stricter enforcement protocols and larger seizures rather than increased drug activity.
Specific seizure data revealed substantial increases across multiple categories: cannabis confiscations rose by 14.4 percent, cough syrup seizures jumped by 145.73 percent, and tablet confiscations increased by 26.37 percent.
Border Security and Cybercrime Preparedness
Regarding cross-border security, Saha highlighted that Tripura Police serve as a robust second line of defense along the state's boundaries. During 2025, law enforcement apprehended 576 illegal infiltrators and 102 touts involved in facilitating unauthorized border crossings.
Looking toward future challenges, the Chief Minister announced that steps are being taken to modernize the state's cyber police station, strengthening Tripura's capacity to respond effectively to evolving cybersecurity threats in the digital age.

"Specialized training programs are being planned to help our police personnel meet emerging challenges," Saha concluded. "We remain committed to maintaining this positive trajectory through technological upgrades, skill development, and proactive policing strategies that prioritize citizen safety across all communities in Tripura."
