Trichy District Administration Initiates Postal Voting for Elderly and Disabled Voters
The district administration in Trichy has commenced the distribution of Form 12D to senior citizens, aiming to facilitate eligible voters among them to express their willingness to cast postal votes from their homes in the upcoming assembly election. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure inclusive participation in the democratic process.
Eligibility and Scope of the Postal Voting Scheme
Arrangements are being meticulously made for senior citizens aged above 85 years and persons with disabilities who have more than 40% physical impairment to exercise their franchise through postal ballots. In Trichy district, there are a total of 38,733 eligible individuals, comprising 16,327 senior citizens and 22,406 persons with disabilities across the nine constituencies.
District Collector V Saravanan emphasized that voters should carefully fill out the forms delivered by booth level officers during home visits and return them within a strict timeframe of five days. This process is designed to streamline voter registration and ensure timely processing of postal vote requests.
Election Commission Appoints Observers for Oversight
The Election Commission of India has appointed 13 observers to oversee the assembly election in Trichy district, ensuring transparency and adherence to electoral guidelines. The team includes six general observers, six expenditure observers, and one police observer, each assigned specific responsibilities.
General Observers: The general observers are IAS officers tasked with monitoring various constituencies. K V N Chakradhar Babu is assigned to Manapparai and Thiruverumbur, Bijay Kumar Dash to Musiri and Thuraiyur, Praveen Kumar Laxkar to Lalgudi and Mannachanallur, Jagdish Prasad Meena to Trichy West, Madhusmita Sahoo to Trichy East, and Joram Beda to Srirangam.
Expenditure Observers: IRS officers have been appointed as expenditure observers to scrutinize campaign spending. Bal Krishnan Gopal covers Trichy East and Thiruverumbur, Ajit Kumar Nirala oversees Musiri and Thuraiyur, Radhe Krishna monitors Lalgudi and Mannachanallur, Vivek Upadhyay is in charge of Trichy West, Abhinav Ujjainia handles Srirangam, and Anunay Bhati looks after Manapparai.
Police Observer: IPS officer Abhay Singh serves as the police observer for all assembly constituencies in Trichy, ensuring law and order during the electoral process.
Extended Oversight in Perambalur District
In a related development, Perambalur district has also seen the appointment of observers. Neha Bansal and Amar Bahadur Singh have been designated as general observers, while IRS officer Anuj Garg takes on the role of expenditure observer. This underscores the Election Commission's comprehensive approach to managing elections across the region.
The postal voting initiative reflects a significant step towards enhancing voter accessibility, particularly for vulnerable groups, and is expected to boost participation in the assembly election.
