Trichy MP Durai Vaiko Advocates for Enhanced Railway Connectivity and Safety

In a significant development for regional transport, Trichy MP Durai Vaiko has put forward a series of demands aimed at improving railway services and safety in the area. During a meeting with Trichy Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Balak Ram Negi on Sunday, the MP highlighted critical issues and proposed solutions to bolster connectivity and address public concerns.

Key Demands for Shuttle Train and Regional Connectivity

Among the primary requests, Durai Vaiko has sought the introduction of a shuttle train service between Trichy and Salem via Karur. He pointed out that train number 76822/76823, which currently operates between Karur and Salem, is maintained at Trichy but runs empty on the Trichy-Karur section. Extending this service to Trichy, with stops at prominent stations such as Trichy Fort and Palakkarai, could significantly enhance regional connectivity and optimize resource utilization.

Safety Concerns and Infrastructure Inspections

Prior to the meeting, the MP inspected residential areas near railway tracks in Marakkadai, where overgrown bushes pose serious safety threats to residents. In his representation, he emphasized that unchecked growth of weeds and shrubs in densely populated zones increases risks, including reptiles sneaking into nearby streets. He urged the railways to conduct regular maintenance to mitigate these hazards.

Additionally, Durai Vaiko inspected the Palur limited-use subway, which falls under the Salem DRM's jurisdiction. He assured residents that a permanent solution would be implemented to prevent water stagnation in the subway, addressing long-standing complaints.

Additional Services for Commuters and Festivals

To support industrial workers and students from delta districts, the MP requested a stoppage for the Trichy-Mayiladuthurai MEMU service at Thiruverumbur. This move aims to facilitate easier access for daily commuters.

With the Samayapuram Poochorithal festival set to commence next month, Durai Vaiko also demanded DEMU special trains between Trichy and nearby cities. This initiative is expected to accommodate the increased passenger traffic during the festive period.

Follow-Up on Ongoing Projects

During the meeting, the MP sought updates on the status of railway over bridge works at key locations, including Sanjeevi Nagar, Poongudi, Srirangam, Kumaresapuram, and Melakalkandarkottai. This underscores his commitment to monitoring infrastructure developments and ensuring timely completion for public benefit.

Overall, Durai Vaiko's proactive approach in addressing railway issues reflects a broader effort to improve transportation efficiency and safety in Trichy and surrounding regions, with potential positive impacts on local communities and economic activities.
