Karnal Police Bust Two Gangs, Arrest Eight in 24 Theft Cases

The CIA-3 unit of the Karnal police has arrested eight individuals, comprising six thieves and two scrap dealers who allegedly purchased stolen goods. With these arrests, the police claim to have resolved 24 theft cases in the district.

Accused Identified

The arrested persons have been identified as Arun, Sanjeev, Tilak Raj, Aman, Aryan, Saurabh, Gulshan, and Gautam. According to DSP Rajiv Kumar, the accused belonged to two separate gangs involved in multiple theft incidents.

Targeted Institutions

The gangs allegedly targeted government schools and anganwadi centres, stealing items used in the mid-day meal scheme along with other articles. Over the past several months, numerous burglaries and thefts had been reported from these institutions.

Recovered Items

The police recovered 29 LPG cylinders, 13 bags of wheat, two inverter batteries, utensils including tubs, two auto-rickshaws used for reconnaissance, and Rs 69,000 in cash from the possession of the accused.

Confessions and Custody

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in 24 thefts. Investigations revealed that one of the accused had a prior criminal record and had previously been lodged in jail. The accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to three-day police custody.

Modus Operandi

The DSP stated that the gangs targeted isolated government institutions during night hours, taking advantage of the lack of security.
