DMK's Strategic State Conference in Siruganur
The DMK has chosen Trichy to host its 12th consecutive state-level conference, a decision laden with sentimental and strategic significance. The event, presided over by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, will take place at Siruganur on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway on March 9. This venue holds historical importance for the party, as it was here in March 2021 that Stalin, then the leader of the opposition, unveiled a vision document containing seven promises during a state conference. That gathering played a pivotal role in propelling the DMK back to power after a decade in opposition.
With the goal of retaining power, the DMK has adopted the tagline 'Stalin Thodarattum TamilNadu Vellattum' (Let Stalin Continue, Let Tamil Nadu Triumph). Party principal secretary K.N. Nehru has been tasked with mobilizing an impressive assembly of 10 lakh cadres and functionaries for the event. Approximately 500 acres of land have been prepared to accommodate the massive turnout. Chief Minister Stalin recently indicated that the DMK would reveal the 'main picture' at Trichy, suggesting a significant show of strength ahead of the critical polls.
This conference gains additional importance as the DMK has recently solidified its alliance by incorporating new parties into its fold. It also serves as a litmus test for local minister K.N. Nehru, who faces corruption charges from the Enforcement Directorate, as he strives to maintain his influence within the party. Nehru stated, 'Conference will start around 3pm and go on for 4 hours. We have music programmes from composer Deva. CM may talk about poll promises.'

In response, the BJP has planned a major NDA rally on March 11, to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other alliance leaders. The venue is located just about 30 kilometers south of the DMK's conference site, setting the stage for a direct political confrontation. The central region, which includes the agrarian Cauvery delta districts, is traditionally perceived as a stronghold of the DMK. The BJP aims to make inroads into this area, starting with its Trichy campaign, bolstered by support from key allies such as the AIADMK and AMMK.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to land at Panjapur around 5pm on March 11 to address the public. He is also expected to launch several new projects for Tamil Nadu during his visit. BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran commented, 'TN people expect a change of guard in the state. For now, we cannot comment on seat-sharing talks. Unlike the squabble between DMK and Congress, our alliance is firm.' The party has identified around 30 acres of land for the rally, which will feature several NDA leaders.
