A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's campaign visit to Tamil Nadu, TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai launched a sharp critique on Saturday, asserting that the BJP cannot secure victory in the state regardless of how frequently Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah make appearances. This statement comes in the wake of Modi's first public election rally in Madurantakam, Chengalpet district, where all NDA allies shared the stage, signaling the intensifying political climate ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Allegations of Betrayal and Fund Mismanagement
Selvaperunthagai accused the BJP-led central government of betraying Tamil Nadu by failing to allocate adequate funds, vowing that the people will deliver a decisive lesson to the party in the assembly polls. He highlighted a stark contrast in language funding, noting that from 2014 to 2025, only 147 crore rupees were allocated for Tamil, while Sanskrit, spoken by approximately 84,000 individuals, received 2,532 crore rupees. This disparity, he argued, undermines Modi's professed affection for the Tamil language and Thirukkural, questioning the Prime Minister's right to speak on these cultural matters.
Financial Discrepancies and State Contributions
Further elaborating on the financial grievances, the TNCC president pointed out that Tamil Nadu contributed 7.38 lakh crore rupees in taxes to the central government over the past seven years, yet received only 2.56 lakh crore rupees in return. Selvaperunthagai emphasized that this imbalance serves as undeniable proof of the state being shortchanged, reinforcing his call for accountability and fair treatment as election fervor builds.
