NEW DELHI: In the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Rukbanur Rahman is leading by over 7,000 votes against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Anima Dutta for the Palashipara constituency. Voter Demographics and Turnout

The Palashipara Assembly constituency had a total of 2,31,620 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 election. Among them, 1,22,063 were male, 1,09,553 female, and four belonged to the third gender. West Bengal voted across 294 seats in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recording a combined turnout of nearly 93 per cent. This is the highest since Independence and one of the largest in Indian electoral history. The constituency is part of the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency, where in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, TMC candidate Mahua Moitra won, defeating BJP's Amrita Roy by 56,705 votes. The constituency has seen a steady increase in registered voters: 252,634 in 2024, up from 244,867 in 2021, 231,244 in 2019, 218,181 in 2016, and 185,525 in 2011. Muslims constitute the largest share of the electorate at 49.20 per cent, while Scheduled Castes account for 15.79 per cent and Scheduled Tribes 1.08 per cent.

Rural Constituency with High Turnout

Palashipara is an entirely rural constituency with no urban voters on its electoral rolls. Voter turnout has remained consistently high over the years, recording 86.05 per cent in 2011, 83.75 per cent in 2016, 80.72 per cent in 2019, 83.13 per cent in 2021, and 78.21 per cent in 2024. The 2026 election saw a record turnout of nearly 93 per cent across the state, reflecting strong voter engagement.
