In a strong statement issued on Sunday, Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman called upon the Central government to take immediate and decisive steps to ensure the safety and security of the Hindu community in neighbouring Bangladesh.
Demands for Border Control and Diplomatic Firmness
Speaking from Agartala, Debbarman urged the Centre to immediately halt the entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India and to suspend visa services. He expressed deep concern over what he described as escalating anti-India rhetoric and threats from across the border.
Debbarman claimed that prominent leaders in Bangladesh have openly supported calls for shutting down the Indian embassy and have made provocative statements regarding claiming India's northeastern region. He further noted that some factions have even demanded that India surrender Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Criticism of India's Response and Policy Inconsistencies
The royal scion-turned-politician criticized what he perceives as a muted response from India's so-called patriots on these critical issues. He emphasized that his party, TIPRA Motha, often dismissed by critics, is the one boldly speaking out against these alleged atrocities.
Debbarman also highlighted apparent inconsistencies in India's approach. He pointed to the participation of Bangladeshi cricket players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while Indian sportspersons continue to face restrictions and hurdles, questioning the reciprocity in bilateral relations.
Condemnation of Attacks and Call for Uncompromising Stance
Pradyot Debbarman strongly condemned the reported attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh. He detailed incidents involving the destruction of temples and churches, along with forced conversions affecting both tribal populations and Bengali Hindus.
He also criticized the privileged access given to individuals arriving from Bangladesh for medical care, education, and other services in India, arguing that the country receives abuse and threats in return for its generosity.
Urging immediate corrective measures, the Tipra Motha founder maintained that India must adopt an uncompromising and firm stance to address the situation effectively and safeguard its national interests and the well-being of persecuted communities.
