Tension at Kolkata Poll Booth as Adhikari Faces Crowd

A tense situation unfolded during the West Bengal Elections 2026 at a polling booth in Kolkata when State Leader of Opposition and BJP candidate from Bhabanipur and Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari, arrived for a booth inspection. Reports suggest that soon after his arrival, a group of Trinamool Congress supporters gathered around him, leading to a heated exchange of slogans from both sides. The situation escalated as the crowd grew and the atmosphere outside the booth became increasingly charged.

Security Forces Intervene

Security forces, including CRPF and local police personnel, were deployed at the site and had to intervene to control the situation. Authorities reportedly used a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd and restore order, ensuring that polling inside the booth was not disrupted. Visuals from the location showed a heavy security presence as officers attempted to separate political workers and maintain calm. After the situation was brought under control, Suvendu Adhikari left the booth area, with slogans being raised during his exit as well.

Political Reactions

Later, Adhikari made strong remarks, accusing the ruling party of creating an atmosphere of intimidation and questioning the conduct of polling in the area. His comments further intensified the political debate surrounding the incident. Trinamool Congress, however, has denied any role in instigating unrest, stating that elections in the state are being conducted peacefully and isolated incidents are being politicised. Authorities are expected to review the incident as voting continues across West Bengal, with security tightened at sensitive polling stations.
