In a significant development for the Bharatiya Janata Party's outreach in South India, two prominent personalities from the Telugu film industry joined the party's ranks in Hyderabad on Saturday. Veteran actress Aamani and acclaimed make-up artist Shobhalatha, a Nandi Award winner, formally became members of the saffron party.
A Warm Welcome at the State Headquarters
The induction ceremony took place at the BJP's state headquarters in Hyderabad. The event was graced by the presence of Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. The party leaders extended a warm welcome to the new entrants by granting them primary membership and ceremoniously draping them with the party's signature scarves.
Expressing her reasons for the political shift, actress Aamani stated that she was deeply impressed by the policies and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Her decision reflects a growing trend of individuals from various fields aligning with the BJP's vision.
Celebrating Stellar Careers and Social Advocacy
Addressing the gathering, State President N Ramchander Rao highlighted the distinguished backgrounds of both women. He commended Shobhalatha for her landmark legal battle to secure equal opportunities for women make-up artists in the male-dominated Telugu film industry, praising her longstanding struggle for women's rights.
Rao also lauded Aamani's extensive contributions to Indian cinema. He recalled her memorable debut in the blockbuster film 'Jamba Lakidi Pamba' and noted her successful career spanning multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada, along with her work in television serials.
Strengthening the Party Ahead of Elections
Ramchander Rao emphasized that both personalities were inspired by the BJP's governance at the Centre and expressed a sincere desire to serve the people of Telangana. He asserted that their induction would significantly strengthen the party's base in the state.
Confident of the BJP's rising prospects, Rao pointed to the party's performance in the recent local body elections as an indicator of its growing strength. He stated that public sentiment was increasingly favourable towards the 'double-engine government'—a reference to the same party being in power at both the state and central levels. Rao predicted that this positive trend would become clearly evident in the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana.
The entry of these respected film industry figures is seen as a strategic move by the BJP to bolster its cultural connect and appeal among the electorate in Telangana, setting the stage for an intensified political landscape in the state.
