Tragic Double Suicide in Telangana Police Family
In a heartbreaking sequence of events, a police sub-inspector in Telangana has died by suicide at his in-laws' residence, merely five days after his wife also took her own life. The incident occurred during the fifth-day ceremony for his deceased wife, casting a shadow of profound grief over the family and community.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The deceased, identified as Chandrasekhar, aged 36, was serving as a sub-inspector at the Karimnagar II Town police station. His wife, Divya, 32, had consumed crushed oleander seeds on March 17, reportedly due to severe stomach pain. She succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Following Divya's death, her father, Narsaiah, filed a complaint leading Karimnagar I Town police to register a case under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on Wednesday.
Funeral Tensions and Subsequent Tragedy
During Divya's funeral in Seethampeta village of Ellanthakunta mandal on Wednesday, some relatives allegedly blamed Chandrasekhar for her death, accusing him of harassment. Police personnel present at the scene intervened to prevent any escalation, maintaining order during the emotionally charged event.
Chandrasekhar had been staying at his in-laws' house for the past two days. On Saturday morning, he attended Divya's fifth-day ceremony at the village burial ground with family members. After returning home and taking a bath, he retreated into a room.
When he failed to emerge for an extended period, his younger brother Satwik, a reserve inspector from Siddipet, grew concerned. Satwik knocked on the door, but received no response. He and other relatives then forced the door open, discovering Chandrasekhar hanging inside.
Immediate Response and Investigation
The family rushed Chandrasekhar to a private hospital in Jammikunta, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, as confirmed by Huzurabad ACP Madhavi. Police reported that no suicide note was found at the scene.
Based on a complaint filed by Satwik, Ellanthakunta police have registered another case under Section 194 of the BNSS. This marks the second such case within the same family in less than a week, highlighting the severity of the tragedy.
Family Background and Survivors
Chandrasekhar and Divya were married in 2016 and are survived by their two young sons, aged eight and six. The couple's untimely deaths have left the children orphaned, raising concerns about their future care and well-being.
The police investigation continues, with authorities examining all aspects of both deaths to determine any underlying causes or contributing factors. The community remains in shock, grappling with the loss of two lives in such quick succession.
This incident underscores the critical need for mental health support and intervention mechanisms, particularly for individuals in high-stress professions like law enforcement. It also highlights the importance of family support systems during times of crisis.
