Telangana Government Unveils Grand Plans for Godavari Pushkaram 2027
The Congress-led government in Telangana has announced ambitious plans to organize the Godavari Pushkaram in 2027 on a scale comparable to the renowned Kumbh Mela, with comprehensive arrangements designed to highlight the state's unique cultural identity. This significant initiative was discussed during the inaugural meeting of the cabinet sub-committee dedicated to 'Godavari Pushkaram–2027', held at the secretariat in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Infrastructure and Cultural Showcase
During the meeting, officials were directed to undertake permanent infrastructure works that will prominently feature the 'Telangana Brand' and celebrate the state's rich traditions. The committee, chaired by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, included ministers Konda Surekha, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Dasari Anasuya (also known as Seethakka), and Adluri Laxman Kumar, along with government adviser Sudarshan Reddy and senior officials.
The gathering reviewed the detailed schedule for the Pushkarams, assessed departmental preparedness, and outlined a strategic roadmap for future developments. According to Vedic scholars, the 'Adi Pushkaram' is scheduled from June 26 to July 7, 2027, followed by the 'Antya Pushkaram' from July 13 to July 24, 2028, as confirmed by officials at the meeting.
Confidence from Past Successes
Minister Sridhar Babu expressed strong confidence in the government's ability to execute this massive event, citing the successful organization of the 'Saraswati Pushkaram' and the Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He emphasized that the Godavari Pushkaram would be conducted on an even larger scale and with enhanced efficiency, building on these previous achievements.
The meeting projected that approximately eight crore devotees are expected to participate in the Pushkaram, necessitating extensive planning and coordination. To accommodate this massive influx, 96 locations along the Godavari river across multiple districts have been identified, with plans to link important temples situated along the riverbanks.
Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Development
Drawing from experiences gained during previous Pushkarams, the government is formulating separate state and district-level plans aimed at improving ghats, roads, and other essential infrastructure facilities, tailored to local conditions. Officials confirmed that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) will be finalized by the end of this month to ensure timely execution.
In the initial phase, nine high-footfall locations have been designated as 'Tier-1' areas, where construction and enhancement work will be prioritized and carried out on a war footing. To facilitate seamless coordination, the government plans to appoint a special officer specifically for the Pushkarams, supported by department-wise nodal officers.
Focus on Logistics and Safety
Special attention will be devoted to critical aspects such as traffic management at ghats, establishing emergency access routes, providing advanced medical facilities, and organizing adequate parking arrangements. These measures are intended to ensure the safety, convenience, and overall positive experience for the millions of devotees anticipated to attend.
This comprehensive approach underscores the Telangana government's commitment to not only preserving but also promoting the state's cultural heritage through large-scale, well-organized events that attract national and international attention.
