Telangana HC Concludes Hearing in TGPSC Group 1 Case, Judgment on Jan 22, 2026
Telangana HC Adjourns TGPSC Group 1 Case to 2026

The Telangana High Court has wrapped up its hearings in a crucial case concerning the recruitment for state civil services, pushing the final pronouncement of its judgment to next year. The court will deliver its verdict on January 22, 2026, in the appeals challenging a previous order that had suspended the results of the Group I Main examinations conducted by the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC).

Bench Adjourns Case for Final Orders

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin concluded hearing the arguments from all parties on Tuesday. After the extensive hearings, the bench formally adjourned the matter, stating, "Post the matter to Jan 22, 2026, for pronouncement of judgment." This date now marks the culmination of a long legal battle over the prestigious Group I appointments.

Background of the Legal Dispute

The appeals were filed by the TGPSC itself and a group of candidates. They were contesting a single judge's order that had set aside the results of the TGPSC Group-1 Mains examination, which were announced on March 10, and the subsequent general rank list for 563 Group I posts published on March 30.

However, in a significant interim relief, the high court had earlier suspended this single judge order. This allowed the commission to proceed with appointments to the vacant Group I cadre posts. The court had clearly specified that these appointments would be subject to the final outcome of the writ appeals.

Supreme Court's Push for Expedited Hearing

The path to this conclusion was influenced by the Supreme Court of India. In October 2025, while hearing similar appeals filed by the TGPSC, the apex court directed the Telangana High Court to prioritize the hearing in the pending appeals and reach a decision at the earliest. Following this directive, the high court commenced the detailed hearing from December 22 and finally concluded the arguments on Tuesday, setting the stage for the 2026 judgment.

The outcome of this case is keenly awaited by thousands of aspirants and will have lasting implications for the recruitment process of one of Telangana's most coveted government services.
