Telangana Seeks ₹80,000 Crore Central Support in Pre-Budget Demands
Telangana Demands ₹80K Crore Central Aid for Projects

Ahead of the crucial Union Budget, the Telangana government has submitted a substantial list of financial and infrastructure demands to the central government. The state is seeking special assistance to achieve its development targets and alleviate significant fiscal pressures.

Major Financial Requests for Capital Expenditure

The state's proposal includes a request for permission to raise an additional ₹40,000 crore in loans specifically earmarked for capital expenditure. Alongside this, Telangana has asked for a direct budgetary allocation of another ₹40,000 crore for various development projects that fall under centrally-sponsored schemes. This dual approach highlights the state's urgent need for resources to fund large-scale infrastructure works.

Flagship Projects Seeking Central Backing

A central piece of Telangana's demand is the ambitious Musi Riverfront Development project in Hyderabad, estimated to cost around ₹14,100 crore. The state has sought central funding of ₹14,000 crore for this initiative, which is seen as vital for positioning Hyderabad as a global city. A major component involves transporting 20 TMC of water from the Godavari river to meet Hyderabad's drinking water needs, costing ₹7,440 crore. The project also encompasses the Gandhi Sagar rejuvenation, sewerage works, and the construction of 11 heritage bridges.

Other key projects highlighted in the demands include:

  • Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project: The state has renewed its request for central approval and financial assistance for this critical irrigation venture.
  • Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II: For this massive ₹24,269 crore project to build 76.4 km of new lines, Telangana has proposed a 50:50 funding model with the Centre. The proposed corridors connect key areas like Nagole to Shamshabad Airport, Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis, and Miyapur to Patancheru.

Strategic Push for Development Priorities

With multiple large initiatives in the pipeline, the Telangana government has urged the Centre to prioritize these requirements in the upcoming budget. The comprehensive list of demands underscores the state's strategy to leverage central cooperation and funding to accelerate its infrastructure agenda and drive economic growth. The success of these requests in the Union Budget will be closely watched, as it will significantly impact Telangana's ability to execute its development roadmap and manage its fiscal health.
