Telangana Chief Minister Unveils Comprehensive Development Blueprint for Adilabad District

In a significant public address at Pippiri in the Boath constituency, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy outlined an ambitious vision to revitalize the combined Adilabad district, promising a series of transformative projects aimed at boosting irrigation, industry, education, and tourism. The announcement marks a major push by the state government to address long-pending infrastructure needs and spur economic growth in the region.

Revival of Pranahita Chevella Project and Irrigation Assurance

The government has decided to revive the Pranahita Chevella irrigation project, with Tummidihatti designated as the intake point. This move is expected to provide crucial water resources for agricultural purposes, fulfilling a longstanding demand from local farmers. Chief Minister Reddy assured residents that the project's completion would ensure reliable irrigation, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity and supporting rural livelihoods across Adilabad.

Multi-Sector Development Initiatives Announced

Revanth Reddy detailed a comprehensive package of development measures, including:

  • Completion of all pending irrigation projects in the district to improve water availability.
  • Laying the foundation for a new airport, with efforts to expedite the process before June 2, subject to feasibility.
  • Establishment of one of the largest industrial parks in the state to attract investment and generate employment.
  • Setting up a university in Adilabad, with the land acquisition process already initiated and a ground-breaking ceremony planned soon.
  • Development of the Basara Saraswati Temple and Gudem Satyanarayana Temple as key cultural and tourism sites, with an initial sanction of ₹225 crore for the Saraswati Temple and potential additional funding.

The Chief Minister emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to transform Adilabad into a hub for industries, educational institutions, and tourism by 2034. He committed to visiting the district every two months to monitor progress and sanction necessary funds, with estimates currently being prepared for specific local requirements.

Political Context and Counter to Opposition Criticisms

Addressing allegations from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regarding land diversion at the Koheda fruit market, Reddy questioned why the previous BRS government failed to develop such markets during its decade-long tenure. He accused the opposition of misleading the public after neglecting development, asserting that voters have rejected their "gadi palana" (rule from palace).

Expressing confidence in the Congress party's ability to retain power, Reddy pledged to continue welfare and development programs until 2034. He highlighted a shift in political culture, noting that opposition leaders, including BJP MPs and MLAs from Adilabad, were invited to speak at the public meeting—a practice he claimed was absent during the BRS regime when such figures were often arrested before similar events.

Judicial Commission and Broader Governance Plans

In response to BJP leaders, the Chief Minister announced plans to constitute a judicial commission to examine the reorganization of revenue divisions and mandals. This process is slated to begin after the Centre lifts its freeze on geographical boundaries in April 2027, indicating a structured approach to administrative reforms.

Foundation Laying and Temple Ceremonies

Earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers, laid the foundation for the redevelopment of the Basara Saraswati Temple. The Chief Minister, along with his family members, offered prayers at the temple and performed the 'Aksharabhyasam' ritual for his grandson, symbolizing a cultural connection to the region's heritage.

The event also saw the inauguration and foundation laying of various development works collectively worth ₹1,230 crore, underscoring the government's commitment to substantial investment in Adilabad's future. These projects are expected to catalyze regional growth and improve the quality of life for residents, aligning with the broader goal of sustainable development across Telangana.
