Patna: Reacting to the collapse of a slab of the Vikramshila Setu across the Ganga in Bhagalpur, RJD working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Monday alleged that it was a result of corruption under the NDA government, noting that the bridge had earlier been declared unsafe. He also said it was fortunate that no lives were lost in the incident.
Corruption Allegations
“Now, due to corruption in the NDA government, a slab of the Vikramshila Setu in Bhagalpur has fallen into the Ganga river. Does anyone need more credible proof of corruption than this?” he said in a post on X. Referring to reported fault lines in a pillar of the bridge last month, Tejashwi said, “We had warned and alerted the government that the bridge could collapse, but it did not take it seriously, which amounts to shielding the corrupt.”
No Casualties Reported
“At the time the slab fell, several vehicles were on the bridge, but fortunately none was on the affected portion. As a result, there was no loss of life,” said Tejashwi. He added that around 100 bridges and culverts have collapsed in the past two years.
Political Context
The incident comes amid ongoing election results in several states. Tejashwi’s remarks are part of a broader political narrative targeting the NDA government’s handling of infrastructure projects. The Vikramshila Setu, a key bridge across the Ganga, has been a subject of safety concerns for months.
