Tej Pratap Yadav Files FIR, Seeks Security Over Death Threats From Ex-Aide
Tej Pratap Yadav files FIR, seeks security over threats

In a dramatic political fallout, Jan Shakti Janta Dal (JJD) president Tej Pratap Yadav has approached the police, seeking protection and legal action against the party's former national spokesperson, Santosh Kumar Renu Yadav. The complaint, filed at the Sachivalay police station in Patna, accuses Renu of issuing death threats and using abusive language on social media following his expulsion from the party.

FIR Invokes Serious Charges Under New Law

The First Information Report (FIR), registered on December 21, 2025, invokes serious charges including extortion, cheating, criminal intimidation, and intentional harm for breach of peace. Notably, the case has been filed under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the new penal code. Beyond the police complaint, Tej Pratap Yadav has also written to Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, Samrat Choudhary, formally requesting enhanced security cover, citing a direct threat to his life.

In his statement to the police, Yadav detailed that Renu was initially appointed as the national spokesperson but was later "found to be acting against the party’s ideology." The complaint contains specific allegations of financial misconduct. Yadav accused Renu of extorting money from people by promising jobs and other favours. One cited instance involves an alleged online transaction where money was taken from a resident of Motihari under the pretext of getting work done.

Expulsion and Escalation on Social Media

Yadav stated that the party leadership attempted to counsel Renu after these matters came to light, but claimed he continued to mislead them. Consequently, the JJD's central disciplinary committee expelled Santosh Renu from the party on December 14, 2025. Tej Pratap Yadav publicly announced this expulsion on social media platform X, alleging that Renu had taken Rs 1.45 lakh from a Bihar Military Police havaldar by promising recruitment.

The situation escalated rapidly after the expulsion. According to the FIR, Renu began posting videos and going live on platforms like Facebook and YouTube, using what Yadav described as "objectionable language" and "issuing threats." "This is unacceptable under any circumstances," Yadav asserted in the complaint, urging the authorities to take "prompt and strict action." The party also removed Renu from his additional post as the national president of its affiliated outfit, the Yaduvanshi Sena.

The Other Side: Renu's Defence and Counter-Allegations

Santosh Renu has vehemently denied all allegations. In his own social media videos and posts, he has termed the charges as false and politically motivated. Renu claims his fallout with Tej Pratap Yadav began after he started "questioning certain decisions" and refused to endorse the party leader's version of an alleged incident involving the beating of a party worker.

He further alleged that he was accused of aligning with the BJP simply for expressing condolences over the death of a BJP leader's brother. "Because I kept asking questions, action was taken against me," Renu stated. He also made a broader allegation, claiming that Tej Pratap Yadav and his brother Tejashwi Yadav do not allow other young leaders from the Yadav community to rise. Mirroring his former boss, Renu has also sought police protection from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, citing a threat to his own life.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary confirmed to The Indian Express that he has received Tej Pratap Yadav's letter and that the matter "is being looked into." These developments occur against the backdrop of Tej Pratap Yadav's recent electoral setback, where he lost the Bihar Assembly election from Mahua. None of the 43 candidates fielded by his JJD in the election managed to secure a victory.
