Tambaram Traffic Diversions for Pongal Holidays Announced

Tambaram police in Chennai has announced traffic regulations and route diversions ahead of the Pongal holidays. These measures aim to ease congestion, especially on routes leading to the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam. The regulations will be in force from January 12 to 14 and again from January 18 to 19.

Key Traffic Restrictions

Between 2 PM and 2 AM on these dates, heavy vehicles will face restrictions on several major roads. The affected routes include Grand Southern Trunk Road, Pammal–Kundrathur Road, Thiruneermalai Road, 200 Feet Radial Road, Tambaram–Velachery Road, Gandhi Road, and Mudichur Road.

Specific Diversions for Heavy Vehicles

Traffic diversions are in place for vehicles on the Vandalur–Kelambakkam Road. Those heading to the Nallambakkam crusher junction must take alternate routes. They can go via Keerapakkam towards Karanai Puducherry or through Vengambakkam towards Mappedu.

Alternate Routes from Various Directions

Heavy vehicles approaching Tambaram from different directions have designated alternate routes.

  • Vehicles from Kundrathur Outer Ring Road side will divert at Madha Engineering College service road and proceed via Sriperumbudur.
  • Vehicles from Kancheepuram and Oragadam heading to Tambaram will divert at Mudichur Road–Outer Ring Road junction and travel along Outer Ring Road.
  • Heavy vehicles from Maduravoyal will divert to the top of Maduravoyal bypass flyover and continue via Poonamallee.
  • Vehicles from Outer Ring Road to Tambaram will divert at Mannivakkam junction and go through Oragadam.
  • Heavy vehicles from ECR will divert at Kovalam junction via Thiruporur.
  • Vehicles from Old Mahabalipuram Road will reroute through Padur junction and Sengalmal junction towards Mamallapuram.
  • Vehicles from Chengalpet heading to Tambaram have multiple options: through Singaperumal Koil to Sriperumbudur, via Vandalur Outer Ring Road to Padappai, or through the old Vandalur flyover to Walajabad Road.

These measures are designed to ensure smoother traffic flow during the busy holiday period. Tambaram police urges all drivers to follow the diversions and plan their journeys accordingly.
