A seer has urged the Congress party to appoint D K Shivakumar as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, warning of repercussions if the demand is not met. Speaking to reporters, Pranavananda Swamiji said that a group of 25 swamijis plans to visit New Delhi soon to press for Shivakumar's elevation.
Warning to Congress
The Swamiji cautioned that the Congress would face 'consequences' if Shivakumar is not made the Chief Minister. He emphasized that the party's performance in future elections could be impacted if the leadership fails to address the aspirations of the Lingayat community, which he claimed supports Shivakumar.
Group of Seers to Visit Delhi
Pranavananda Swamiji announced that a delegation of 25 seers will travel to the national capital to meet with Congress high command. They plan to convey their support for Shivakumar and urge the party to make a decision soon. The Swamiji also claimed that several other seers from different communities back Shivakumar's candidacy.
The demand comes amid speculation about a possible leadership change in Karnataka, with current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's term nearing its end. Shivakumar, who is the state Congress president, has been a prominent leader and is seen as a contender for the top post.
The Congress party has not yet commented on the Swamiji's remarks. Political observers suggest that the party may face internal pressure to balance caste equations and regional dynamics while making a decision.
