CM Stalin Issues Stern Warning to Modi Government Over Tamil Rights
In a fiery campaign speech delivered in Vellore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin issued a direct warning to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, cautioning them against "playing with fire" by attempting to stifle the voice and rights of the Tamil people.
Strong Rebuke to Union Minister's Remarks
Campaigning for India bloc candidates on Tuesday, Stalin took strong exception to recent comments made by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who allegedly labeled critics of BJP policies as "illiterates." The Chief Minister delivered a sharp retort: "Mr. Piyush Goyal, hold your tongue. You are merely the BJP's in-charge for Tamil Nadu. Do not speak with such arrogance."
Stalin emphasized the dignity and knowledge of the Tamil people, stating: "Tamils are a self-respecting and knowledgeable people. If you insult our dignity, the retaliation from Tamil Nadu against your arrogance in Delhi will be severe."
Opposition to Reduced Parliamentary Representation
The Chief Minister came down heavily on the Union government's plan to reduce political representation of southern states in Parliament based on population metrics. He argued that Tamil Nadu followed central government advice on family planning to ensure sustainable growth, only to face potential punishment for that success.
"This is a conspiracy against the states that progressed," Stalin declared, revealing that he had released an official video earlier alerting the Prime Minister to what he termed a "fascist agenda" against southern states.
Scathing Attack on AIADMK Leadership
Turning his attention to the opposition, Stalin launched a blistering attack on AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, accusing him of being a "political chameleon" who served as a mask for BJP's entry into Tamil Nadu politics.
"Palaniswami knows neither 'Dravidam' nor 'Anna' policies," Stalin asserted. "That is why the whole of Tamil Nadu views him as a political embarrassment."
The Chief Minister reminded voters that AIADMK supported the Citizenship Amendment Act in Parliament, claiming the legislation would not have passed in the Rajya Sabha without their backing. He warned: "A vote for AIADMK is a vote for the BJP, which will push Tamil Nadu back by a hundred years."
Vision for Dravidian Model 2.0
Looking toward the future, Stalin pitched his vision for what he termed "Dravidian Model 2.0," promising that his government would "break its own records" in welfare and development initiatives. He highlighted infrastructure achievements during his tenure as Chief Minister, specifically mentioning projects completed in Vellore.
These included the Hogenakkal Integrated Drinking Water Project, the Government Pentland Multi-Speciality Hospital, Tidel Parks, and several new bridges and check dams constructed across the Palar River.
Emotional Appeal to Tamil Identity
Making an emotional appeal to voters, Stalin positioned himself as "the son of Kalaignar" and framed the upcoming election as crucial for Tamil Nadu's survival. "This is not just a battle for the DMK; it is a battle for the survival of Tamil Nadu," he declared.
The Chief Minister presented voters with a clear choice: "Choose between the 'Tamil Nadu team' and the 'Delhi team.'" His remarks underscored the deepening political divide between regional Tamil identity and central government policies, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested electoral battle in the southern state.
