The event took place on the night of May 14, when the area was plunged into darkness as part of a simulated power outage exercise. According to police reports, the victim, identified as 45-year-old Rajesh Kumar, was a local spice merchant. He was returning home when he was mistaken for an intruder by a group of residents participating in the drill.

During the drill, all lights in the area were switched off, creating complete darkness. In the confusion, some residents spotted Rajesh Kumar moving near a house and suspected him of being a thief. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who demand justice for the victim. Family members of the deceased allege that the drill was conducted without proper precautions. "They should have informed everyone about the drill. My brother was killed because of their negligence," said the victim's brother. Meanwhile, the administration has announced compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the family.

The district magistrate stated that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter. "We are reviewing the protocols for such drills. Adequate measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The accused will be dealt with as per law," he said.
