Six Sons of Ex-Councillors Contest Ahmedabad Civic Polls

In the 2026 elections to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), six sons of former councillors from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress contested the polls. The BJP fielded five sons of former councillors, while the Congress gave a ticket to one. Of these, four sons of former BJP councillors emerged victorious, while the son of a former councillor and ex-mayor lost the election. The son of a former Congress councillor who was fielded also won the polls.

Detailed Results

In Khadia ward, BJP candidate Pareshkumar Anand, son of former city mayor Laljibhai Parmar, was defeated. In Kubernagar ward, the BJP fielded Umedsinh Yadav, whose mother Kalaben Yadav was a former councillor, and he won the election. From Chandkheda ward, Yashkumar Jadav, the son of two-term BJP councillor Jayanti Jadav, was also fielded by the BJP and secured a win. Likewise, Maulik Patel, the son of former councillor Atul Patel, contested again from the Ramol Hathijan ward and won. Maulik Patel, son of late Gautam Patel, a former councillor from Isanpur ward, was again fielded by the BJP from Isanpur ward.

Congress and Other Candidates

Congress candidate from Gomtipur, Zulfi Khan Pathan, son of former councillor Taufiq Khan Pathan, also won the election. Apart from this, Umang Nayak served as councillor from Khadia ward between 2021 and 2026. In the 2026 polls, his wife, Hetal Nayak, was fielded by the BJP from Khadia ward but lost. Kranti Maulik Ashokbhai Bhatt, also known as Kranti Koumil Gandhi and niece of former MLA Bhushan Bhatt, was fielded by the BJP from Paldi ward and won the election.
