Upon inquiry, the Shiv Sena (UBT) members revealed they had been instructed by their national leadership to campaign for the DMK as part of the broader INDIA bloc alliance, claiming to represent around 3,000 votes in the constituency.
The rally subsequently proceeded to visit lower-income settlements in Kallikuppam, where many of the Shiv Sena volunteers reside. This move highlighted the grassroots nature of the collaboration, focusing on direct engagement with the community.

Naveen Kumar, the central Chennai district secretary of Shiv Sena (UBT), emphasized their motivation: "We have long-term civic issues such as sewage overflow, lack of piped water supply, and inadequate borewells in slumboard colonies in Kallikuppam. We hope the DMK candidate will address these pressing matters."
MLA Joseph Samuel responded to the unusual alliance by stating, "We welcome all allies despite differences. Their party has a Hindutva ideology, but locally, this group joined us to address the needs of their voter base. We keep it at that level only."
