Shimla Fire: Search for 5 Nepalese Workers' Remains Continues

The search operation to recover the remains of five Nepalese migrant workers continues in Shimla. These workers tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire. The fire broke out early Monday morning. It engulfed a four-storeyed wooden building at Arki market in Solan district.

Limited Success in Recovery Efforts

On Wednesday, the search operation saw limited success. Arki sub-divisional magistrate Nishant Tomar provided an update. He stated that only one human body part was recovered from the debris that day. The joint search operation involves multiple teams. These include the NDRF, SDRF, district administration, police, home guards, and fire department. Tomar confirmed the operation will continue on Thursday as well.

Forensic Examination and Investigations

All human remains recovered so far have been sent for forensic examination. Both magisterial and police investigations into the incident are currently underway. The massive blaze claimed a total of ten lives. Among the victims was the eight-year-old son of a migrant labour family from Bihar.

Political Leaders Visit the Site

Public works department minister Vikramaditya Singh visited the site on Wednesday. He assessed the situation and met with the affected families. Former chief minister and leader of the opposition Jairam Thakur also visited the spot. He was accompanied by Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap. Both leaders interacted with the bereaved families to offer condolences.

Details of the Ill-Fated Building

The building was owned by Rajeev Gupta. It was reportedly used for commercial purposes on the ground and first floors. The top two floors were rented out to migrant labourers. These labourers hailed from Nepal and Bihar, highlighting the diverse group affected by this tragedy.
