Erode: K A Sengottaiyan on Monday recorded his fifth consecutive victory in the Gobichettipalayam assembly constituency, defeating DMK candidate N Nallasivam by a margin of 16,620 votes. This win marks the 10th victory in Sengottaiyan's political career, underscoring his enduring personal influence despite his recent shift from the AIADMK to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Vote Tally and Key Rivals
Sengottaiyan polled 82,612 votes, while Nallasivam secured 65,992 votes, finishing second. AIADMK candidate V B Prabhu came third with 56,232 votes. NTK's M K Seethalakshmi managed only 8,137 votes. The results indicate that Sengottaiyan's local appeal remains strong, even as he contested under a new party banner.
Historical Performance
In the 2021 elections, Sengottaiyan contested on an AIADMK ticket and won with 1,08,608 votes, defeating DMK's G V Manimaran by 28,563 votes. In 2016, he secured 96,177 votes as an AIADMK candidate, beating INC's S V Saravanan by 11,223 votes. His consistent performance highlights a deep-rooted connection with the constituency.

Poomozhi, a political analyst, noted, "Over the years, he has turned Gobichettipalayam into a dependable base by focusing on development, agricultural concerns, and constituency-level visibility." Sengottaiyan's transition to TVK was framed not as a break from his past but as an evolution, positioning himself as an experienced leader with a proven record while aligning with the momentum of Vijay's political project. "This combination seems to have helped him preserve his traditional support base and made him appealing to voters seeking a new alternative," Poomozhi added.
