NTK Chief Seeman Condemns Delimitation Proposal, Advocates for Tamil Nadu's Representation
In a strong stance against the central government's proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman voiced his opposition on Wednesday, declaring any reduction in the number of seats for Tamil Nadu as completely unacceptable. Speaking to reporters in Pudukkottai, Seeman highlighted the timing of the parliamentary debate, questioning why it is being initiated during the election season, which he suggested could undermine fair political discourse.
Seeman Criticizes Population-Based Seat Allocation
Seeman argued that Tamil Nadu has diligently implemented family planning measures to control its population growth, making it unjust to decrease its parliamentary representation while increasing seats for states like Uttar Pradesh. "After Tamil Nadu strictly implemented family planning and controlled its population, reducing its number of constituencies while increasing the number of seats in Uttar Pradesh is not acceptable," he stated, emphasizing the need for equitable treatment in the delimitation process.
Campaign Trail Focuses on Farmer Welfare and Agricultural Reforms
During his campaign across Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts, Seeman dedicated significant attention to the plight of farmers. In Pattukottai, while supporting the party's candidate, he lamented the struggles faced by agricultural producers. "Producers of all other goods are free to determine their own prices and live comfortably. But farmers, who feed the entire nation, are unable to fix the price of their produce and are forced to die in debt," he remarked, underscoring the urgency of addressing this issue.
To tackle this long-standing problem, Seeman assured that an NTK-led government would establish a committee comprising farmers to recommend fair pricing for agricultural produce. "The government will fix the price of agricultural produce based on the recommendations of that committee," he promised, aiming to provide financial stability and dignity to the farming community.
Liquor Policy and Agricultural Employment Promises
At Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district, Seeman outlined his party's liquor policy, which includes closing all Tasmac liquor shops and replacing them with toddy shops to sell the natural drink 'kallu'. This move is part of a broader initiative to promote healthier alternatives and reduce alcohol-related issues in the state.
Additionally, Seeman pledged to elevate the status of farmers by transforming agriculture and cattle rearing into government jobs, inspired by the vision of agricultural scientist Nammalvar. "Following the vision of agricultural scientist Nammalvar, we will turn farming and animal husbandry into government employment," he said, envisioning a future where farming is recognized as a secure and respected profession.
Seeman's campaign rhetoric reflects a comprehensive agenda focused on protecting Tamil Nadu's political representation, supporting farmers through structural reforms, and implementing social policies aimed at improving public welfare. As the election season progresses, these promises are likely to resonate with voters concerned about regional autonomy and agricultural sustainability.
