Opposition Leader V D Satheesan Intensifies Attack on CPM Over Sabarimala Gold Heist Case
In a fiery press conference held at North Paravur on Saturday, Kerala's opposition leader V D Satheesan launched a scathing critique against the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist), demanding transparency and accountability regarding the high-profile Sabarimala gold heist case. Satheesan pointedly questioned why Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM state secretary M V Govindan are allegedly protecting party members implicated in the serious criminal investigation.
"Why the Silence on Grave Crime?" Asks Satheesan
Satheesan highlighted the judicial system's stern observations about the gravity of the Sabarimala gold heist, noting that both the Kerala High Court and Supreme Court have emphasized the seriousness of the offense. Despite this, he revealed that the accused individuals continue to hold positions within the CPM's district committee structure, raising serious questions about political interference in judicial processes.
"Their release from jail was purely procedural, resulting from investigative delays in filing chargesheets, not any judicial exoneration," Satheesan clarified to reporters. "The CPM routinely takes disciplinary action for minor party infractions, yet maintains deafening silence on members involved in a major criminal case. This selective enforcement suggests the party fears what these accused might reveal if properly investigated."
Election Season Evasion and Public Accountability
The opposition leader expressed astonishment at the chief minister's continued avoidance of the topic during an election season characterized by daily press interactions. Satheesan argued that the public deserves complete transparency about what political pressures might be preventing decisive governmental action against those implicated in the gold heist.
"The leadership must stop dodging legitimate questions and start providing honest answers," Satheesan insisted. "This evasion during crucial election campaigning raises fundamental questions about governance priorities and political integrity."
Condemnation of FCRA Amendments as "Legislative Bulldozer"
Shifting his focus to national policies, Satheesan strongly condemned recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, describing them as a deliberate tool to target and harass minority-run charitable organizations. He detailed how the revised law empowers authorities to seize institutional assets over minor administrative delays in license renewals, creating what he termed a "legislative bulldozer" designed to suppress minority rights.
Reviving Controversy Over Alleged RSS Links
The opposition leader reignited controversy surrounding the chief minister's alleged connections with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, citing mediators like spiritual leader Sri M. Satheesan challenged the CM to explain why a senior Additional Director General of Police was reportedly dispatched to meet with RSS leadership, questioning the consistency between public anti-communal rhetoric and private engagements.
"The CM bows his head in legislative assembly when questioned about these covert discussions," Satheesan noted. "They publicly oppose communalism while maintaining backchannel communications, revealing troubling political contradictions."
Election Predictions and Rehabilitation Comparisons
Regarding the upcoming elections, Satheesan dismissed criticisms from community leader Vellappally Natesan and predicted a "2001-style political wave" favoring the United Democratic Front, projecting the coalition would secure over 100 legislative seats. He contrasted the UDF's rehabilitation efforts in Wayanad with what he described as the government's lethargic response to disaster relief.
"Congress-led initiatives provided land and housing solutions within four months," Satheesan claimed. "Meanwhile, the government has failed to effectively utilize the ₹642 crore collected in relief funds, demonstrating concerning administrative inefficiency during critical recovery periods."
