SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal Launches Scathing Attack on AAP Government in Punjab
During her visit to Amritsar on Sunday, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Member of Parliament Harsimrat Kaur Badal unleashed a sharp critique against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab. Speaking to the media after paying obeisance at the Golden Temple, Badal accused the administration of failing to deliver on its pre-election commitments while highlighting significant governance lapses across multiple sectors.
Unfulfilled Promises to Women and Governance Failures
Harsimrat Kaur Badal specifically targeted the AAP government's much-publicized promise to provide Rs 1,000 monthly to women, which was a key electoral pledge before the 2022 state elections. She asserted that this initiative turned out to be nothing more than a data-collection exercise, with no financial benefits reaching the intended beneficiaries even after four years of the government's tenure.
"There is no real governance in Punjab, only theatrics," declared Badal, emphasizing that the administration has consistently misled the public with repeated unfulfilled promises. She characterized the government's approach as prioritizing publicity over substantive policy implementation, leaving citizens disillusioned with empty assurances.
Deteriorating Law and Order Situation
The SAD parliamentarian expressed grave concerns about Punjab's deteriorating security environment, stating that the state has effectively fallen under the rule of gangsters. She highlighted a disturbing increase in daily incidents of murder, robbery, and extortion, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among residents.
Badal criticized what she described as the government's misguided approach to law enforcement, alleging that instead of apprehending actual criminals, authorities are targeting innocent youth. She specifically mentioned initiatives like "Operation Prahar" as media stunts that have failed to produce tangible results despite substantial financial investments.
"Despite spending crores of rupees on these operations, not a single major gangster has been caught," she claimed, questioning the effectiveness and sincerity of the government's anti-crime measures.
Healthcare System Under Scrutiny
Turning her attention to public health, Badal delivered a harsh assessment of Punjab's healthcare infrastructure. She dismissed the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme and Mohalla Clinics as mere "showpieces" that fail to address the fundamental healthcare needs of the population.
The criticism suggests that these initiatives, while well-publicized, lack the substance and implementation required to make a meaningful difference in citizens' access to quality medical care. Badal's comments reflect broader concerns about whether the government's healthcare policies are designed for genuine public welfare or primarily for political optics.
Her comprehensive critique during the Amritsar visit underscores growing political tensions in Punjab as opposition parties intensify their scrutiny of the AAP government's performance across critical governance areas including women's welfare, public safety, and healthcare delivery.
