RPI(A) Seeks 5-6 Seats from BJP in Mumbai, Meets CM Shinde
RPI(A) delegation meets CM, demands seats from BJP & Sena

A delegation from the Republican Party of India (Athawale) held a crucial meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday, pressing for a significant share of seats in the ruling alliance for the upcoming political contests in Mumbai.

Seat Sharing Demands Presented to the Chief Minister

The RPI(A) leaders presented a list of 17 specific seats to CM Shinde during the discussion. Party chief and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale later informed reporters about the details of the meeting. He revealed that the Chief Minister responded positively to their request and immediately contacted his party's Mumbai unit president, Ameet Satam, to explore the possibility of allocating 5 to 6 seats from the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) quota to the RPI(A).

Negotiations with Alliance Partners

Athawale disclosed that his party has already secured a commitment for one seat from the Shiv Sena faction. However, the RPI(A) is not stopping there. The delegation plans to approach Chief Minister Shinde again with a request to share a few more seats from his own party's allocation. The core objective of the RPI(A) is to secure the full support of both the BJP and the Shiv Sena within the framework of the ruling Mahayuti alliance for the seats they contest.

Implications for Mumbai's Political Landscape

This meeting underscores the ongoing negotiations and delicate balancing act involved in seat-sharing among alliance partners ahead of significant elections. The RPI(A)'s active pursuit of a larger stake, particularly in the crucial Mumbai region, highlights its aim to strengthen its political footprint. The outcome of these talks will directly impact the final candidate list and the cohesion of the ruling coalition as it prepares for future electoral battles. The party's strategy hinges on leveraging its position within the alliance to maximize its representation.
