RMP Seeks More Assembly Seats in Kerala, Plans Talks with UDF Leadership
RMP Aims for More Assembly Seats, to Discuss with UDF

The Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) has announced its intention to contest more seats in the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. This move goes beyond its current sitting seat of Vadakara. The party plans to take up this matter with the United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership for discussions.

RMP State Secretary Outlines Expansion Plans

RMP state secretary N Venu stated that the party has made significant progress in recent local body elections. He claimed that the decline of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala has encouraged several Left-leaning groups and individuals to offer cooperation to the RMP.

"We are planning to contest a few more seats apart from our sitting seat of Vadakara," Venu said. "If the UDF is willing to hold discussions, the party will decide which constituencies to focus on after internal deliberations. The general position of the party is that we should contest more seats."

Potential Constituencies and Organizational Strength

Venu indicated that constituencies like Kunnamkulam are under active consideration. He highlighted that the RMP won four councillor seats independently in the Kunnamkulam municipality. The party also boasts organizational strength and has state-level leaders in Thrissur district, according to Venu.

He added that the UDF has shown readiness to cooperate not only with its front constituents but also with various organizations and individuals outside the alliance. The RMP intends to hold talks with the UDF based on this openness.

Historical Background of the Revolutionary Marxist Party

The RMP was founded in 2008 by slain CPM rebel leader T P Chandrasekharan after his expulsion from the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Chandrasekharan's wife, K K Rema, won the Vadakara assembly seat in 2016 with support from the UDF. This victory marked a significant milestone for the party in Kerala's political landscape.

The party's current push for more seats reflects its growing confidence and ambition. Local body election successes have provided a strong foundation for this expansion strategy. Political observers note that the RMP's moves could influence alliance dynamics in Kerala ahead of the assembly polls.
