Ranchi LPG Supply Improves, But Booking Glitches and Delivery Delays Continue to Plague Consumers
The acute LPG crisis in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, has shown signs of easing over the past week. However, a significant number of consumers are still grappling with persistent difficulties in booking cylinders and ensuring their timely delivery. Despite improvements in supply, technical issues and systemic delays are forcing many residents to resort to manual processes, creating widespread inconvenience.
Technical Glitches and Manual Bookings Cause Major Hassles
Numerous customers have reported facing ongoing technical problems with the automated IVR (Interactive Voice Response) booking system. These glitches have compelled them to use alternative contact numbers provided by petroleum companies for manual bookings. Even after successfully booking a refill through these channels, consumers are being required to physically visit their local gas agencies to collect a mandatory delivery authentication code.
This extra step has added a significant burden, disrupting daily routines and urgent work for many households. The situation has led to long queues forming at gas agencies across the city as people wait to obtain these crucial codes.
Consumers Voice Frustration Over Long Waits and Inconvenience
Parul Kumari, a resident of the Chutia area, shared her ordeal. "I booked a refill three days ago," she explained. "When the home delivery van arrived, the driver refused to deliver the cylinder without an authentication code from the agency. I had to queue for at least three hours on Thursday just to get that code." Her experience highlights a critical breakdown in the delivery chain, where communication between booking systems and field operations appears flawed.
Another consumer, Tony Kumar, echoed similar frustrations. "I used the numbers released by the petroleum companies to book a refill manually due to the online system failures," he said. "But I still had to make a trip to the agency to get a confirmation code before the refill could be processed. It's a double inconvenience."
Agency Operators Cite Backlog and High Demand
Gas agency operators acknowledge the improved supply situation compared to the severe shortages of the previous week. However, they attribute the ongoing delays to a substantial backlog of pending orders that accumulated during the peak of the crisis.
Kumar Rupesh, a gas agency owner in Ranchi, provided insight into the operational challenges. "We are working diligently to clear all pending deliveries as quickly as possible," he stated. "While supply has stabilized, it will likely take a few more days for operations to normalize completely."
Rupesh further explained the pressure on agencies. "Many customers have booked refills, and everyone wants their cylinder immediately. That's simply not possible with current capacity. We are delivering around 350 cylinders daily. In the meantime, those who encounter booking troubles continue to visit us in person, adding to the queues."
Path to Normalization Remains Gradual
The situation underscores a gap between the stabilization of LPG supply and the full restoration of efficient booking and delivery services. Consumers are caught in a transitional phase where physical verification steps, like obtaining authentication codes, are still necessary due to unresolved technical issues in the digital booking infrastructure.
Authorities and petroleum companies are urged to expedite fixes to the IVR and online systems to reduce dependency on manual interventions. Until these technical hurdles are fully addressed, residents of Ranchi may continue to face disruptions in accessing this essential household commodity, despite the overall improvement in cylinder availability.
