The city of Ranchi is gripped by anxiety as the search intensifies for two young children who vanished from the Dhurwa area last week. The incident has sparked public outrage and drawn the attention of local politicians and police officials.
Disappearance Sparks Fear and Frustration
The two children, aged five and four, disappeared on Friday afternoon from their home in a slum near Mausibadi in Dhurwa. According to details, the siblings had stepped out around 2:30 pm to buy biscuits but never returned. Their worried parents conducted an extensive search throughout the locality before finally approaching the police late that night.
As days passed with no sign of the children, frustration among local residents boiled over. On Monday, the community staged protests, expressing anger over what they perceived as administrative inaction and a slow police response to the critical case.
Political Intervention and Police Action
The case quickly gained political traction. Ranchi MP and Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, intervened, speaking directly with Ranchi police officials and urging them to expedite the search. In a press statement, Seth assured that he would meet the affected family upon his return to Ranchi and provide all possible assistance.
Simultaneously, RJD state spokesperson Kailash Yadav met with the aggrieved community at Mausibadi. He issued a stern ultimatum to the authorities, threatening to stage a dharna at Shiekh Bhikhari Maidan in Dhurwa on Tuesday if the children were not found within 24 hours. Yadav also communicated his dissatisfaction with the police progress in a conversation with Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan.
Reward Announced, SIT Scours Area
Under growing pressure, the police ramped up their efforts. On Monday, a team led by DSP P K Mishra put up posters announcing a reward of Rs 51,000 for any credible information leading to the children's recovery.
The Hatia DSP provided an update on the investigation, stating, "A special investigating team is cordoning off areas on ground of suspicion and searching for the children. The closed circuit television camera footages of the area are being examined." This indicates a multi-pronged approach combining ground searches with technical analysis of available CCTV footage from the vicinity.
The entire community now waits with bated breath, hoping for the safe and swift return of the two young souls. The case has highlighted concerns over child safety in urban areas and put the local administration's responsiveness under intense scrutiny.
