Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Stresses Dignity Ahead of Budget Session
In a significant prelude to the upcoming Budget session, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani chaired a crucial all-party meeting in Jaipur on Tuesday. The meeting, held just one day before the commencement of the legislative session, focused on fostering a conducive environment for parliamentary proceedings.
Speaker's Call for Restraint and Dialogue
Speaker Vasudev Devnani emphasized the paramount importance of maintaining dignity and decorum within the House. He articulated that upholding the respect of the Assembly and the Chair is a collective responsibility shared by all members, regardless of political affiliation. Devnani called for meaningful debate and restraint, urging legislators to engage in constructive discussions.
He assured that every member would be granted a fair opportunity to voice their opinions during the session. Furthermore, Devnani indicated that if necessary, the House could be extended to ensure comprehensive deliberations on critical issues. "Problems are resolved through dialogue, and efforts will be made to address issues raised by members with seriousness," he affirmed, highlighting his commitment to inclusive governance.
Opposition's Expectations and Demands
Following the meeting, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully addressed the media, outlining the opposition's expectations for the upcoming session. Jully stressed the need for impartial conduct from the Speaker and adequate time allocated for discussing the Budget and the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report.
Jully emphasized that the Budget debate must incorporate the voices of all sections of society, including:
- Farmers
- Youth
- Women
- Industries
- People from border areas
He insisted that the CAG report should not be treated as a mere formality, urging the government to respond to the financial irregularities and administrative shortcomings highlighted in the document. Jully also called on the government to avoid guillotining demands without proper discussion and to clarify the Budget's provisions on key issues such as:
- The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP)
- Farmers' income
- Employment opportunities for youth
Additionally, Jully mentioned that matters like OBC reservation in the TSP region would be discussed in the Congress legislature party meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening. This meeting aims to finalize the party's strategy, including whether to raise the issue in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
Government's Appeal for Cooperation
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel reminded the opposition of the need to play a constructive role in the House. He underscored that constructive behavior and cooperation from both sides are essential for the smooth conduct of the Assembly, particularly during the critical Budget session. Patel's remarks highlighted the government's expectation of collaborative efforts to ensure productive legislative proceedings.
The all-party meeting in Jaipur has set the stage for what promises to be a dynamic and closely watched Budget session in Rajasthan. With the Speaker's call for dignity, the opposition's demands for transparency, and the government's appeal for cooperation, the upcoming session is poised to address key issues impacting the state's development and governance.
