Punjab Government Kicks Off Year-Long Celebrations for Guru Ravidas's 650th Parkash Purb
The Punjab government officially launched a comprehensive, year-long series of programs on Wednesday to commemorate the 650th Parkash Purb of Guru Ravidas. The inaugural event was held at Punjabi University in Patiala, setting the stage for a statewide celebration aimed at honoring the spiritual leader's legacy.
Wide-Ranging Programs Planned Across the State
The celebrations will encompass a diverse array of activities designed to reach every corner of Punjab. Programs will be organized in universities and educational institutions throughout the state, alongside documentary screenings in both rural villages and urban wards. Additionally, processions are planned to actively spread Guru Ravidas's profound message of equality and social justice to the masses.
Political Leaders Emphasize Guru's Vision
Addressing the gathering at the inaugural event, AAP Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia made a passionate appeal to the youth. He urged them to actively contribute to building a society based on ‘Begumpura’—the casteless and discrimination-free utopia envisioned by Guru Ravidas. Sisodia highlighted that despite constitutional guarantees of equality, social and economic disparities continue to persist in contemporary India. He stressed the urgent need to translate these constitutional values into tangible reality.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reinforced the state government's commitment to implementing Guru Ravidas's principles. He announced that development works are currently underway at the Sri Guru Ravidas Memorial in Khuralgarh. Furthermore, a Sri Guru Ravidas Bani Study Centre will soon be established at Faridpur. Cheema explained that the primary aim of organizing these events across educational institutions is to connect students directly with the reformist teachings of Guru Ravidas, thereby fostering a more socially conscious environment for future generations.

During the inaugural event, religious scholars and academicians engaged in detailed discussions about Guru Ravidas's teachings and their enduring relevance in today's society.
