Punjab BJP President Slams AAP Government Over BBMB Vacancies and Financial Woes
In a sharp critique of the ruling administration, Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government of failing to fulfill its responsibilities in key appointments and pushing the state toward financial instability.
Unfilled Positions in BBMB Highlight Governance Lapses
Speaking during an event in Jalandhar where state BJP leadership paid tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, Jakhar pointed out a significant governance gap. He revealed that there are currently 1,780 vacant posts under Punjab's quota in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). "While the state government keeps creating disputes over BBMB matters, it has failed to fill its own share of positions," Jakhar stated, emphasizing what he described as administrative negligence.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement and Delayed Payments
Jakhar further escalated his criticism by alleging severe financial mismanagement by the AAP government. He claimed that poor fiscal policies have resulted in delays in employee salaries and substantial unpaid dues. Specifically, he highlighted that approximately ₹15,000 crore in Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears remains unsettled. Even after court directives, Jakhar accused the government of planning to appeal against releasing these funds, which he labeled as reflecting an "anti-people attitude."
Cash Scheme Criticized as a Cover-Up for Failures
The BJP leader also targeted a recent government initiative, alleging it was introduced to divert attention from broader shortcomings. "After completing four unsuccessful years in office, the government has introduced a cash scheme for women to cover up its failures," Jakhar asserted. He argued that such measures are insufficient to address the deeper issues of governance and financial health.
Contrast Between Symbolism and Action
Responding to questions, Jakhar drew a pointed contrast between the government's public displays and its actual policies. He criticized the AAP-led administration, saying, "While it displays photos of Babasaheb and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, it has failed to follow their principles." This remark underscored his accusation that the government prioritizes symbolism over substantive action aligned with the ideals of these revered figures.
Overall, Jakhar's statements paint a picture of a government struggling with both administrative efficiency and fiscal responsibility, as the BJP positions itself in opposition ahead of future political engagements.
