Pune Braces for Widespread Water Supply Disruption on Thursday
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced significant water cuts across the city on Thursday to facilitate essential repairs and maintenance at multiple water supply units. According to officials from the PMC's water supply department, this planned disruption is necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of the city's water infrastructure.
Areas to be Affected by the Water Supply Shutdown
All peth areas and several merged regions will experience a complete halt in water supply during this period. Specifically, residents in Mukai Nagar, Kolhewadi, Khadakwasla, Narhe, and Gokulnagar should prepare for no water availability on Thursday.
Additionally, water supply from overhead tanks at key locations including Parvati, Chandni Chowk, Pashan, SNDT, Gandhi Bhavan, Chatushrungi, and Holkar will be temporarily shut down. This measure is part of the coordinated maintenance efforts to address both civil and electrical issues within the system.
Full-Day Closure at Major Water Works
Officials have confirmed that Wadgaon, Warje, and Cantonment water works will be closed for the entire day on Thursday. This closure is critical for conducting comprehensive maintenance tasks that cannot be performed during regular operations. The PMC emphasizes that these works are aimed at preventing future breakdowns and improving overall water distribution efficiency.
The water supply department has assured citizens that distribution will be resumed by late Friday morning, following the completion of all necessary repairs. Residents are advised to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the disruption period.
This proactive maintenance initiative underscores the PMC's commitment to upgrading Pune's water supply network, which has been under strain due to increasing urban demand. While the temporary inconvenience is acknowledged, officials believe it will lead to more stable and reliable water services in the long run.
