The Pune Rural police on Wednesday apprehended six individuals in connection with the brutal murder of Vishal Kale (31) at the Karde Ghat section near Shirur, approximately 78 kilometers from Pune, which occurred on June 1.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Kale was shot dead by the accused, who intercepted his car by ramming it with a compact SUV and firing at the windscreen. When Kale stepped out of his vehicle and attempted to flee, two more assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire again at him and his two aides. The accused then allegedly bludgeoned Kale to death before escaping the scene in another vehicle.
Kale's aide, Kedar Zadge (25), a resident of Shirur, sustained a forehead injury during the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Another aide, Umesh Jagdale, managed to escape and later approached the Shirur police to lodge a complaint.
Investigation and Arrests
Following the murder, the Pune Rural police formed four teams to track down the assailants. The teams interrogated over 50 known criminals from Shirur and surrounding areas during the investigation. The questioning of known offenders helped identify the suspects. Six accused have been arrested and remanded to police custody until June 9.
An officer from the Pune Rural police stated that the main accused, who also has a criminal record, remains absconding. Our teams are actively searching for him, the officer added.
Motive Behind the Murder
Preliminary investigations indicate that Kale's murder stemmed from a dispute over money and other issues between him and the accused, the officer explained.
