First-Time Candidates Secure Key Wins in Pune Municipal Elections
Rupali Pawar celebrated a significant victory on Friday. She contested her maiden municipal election from the Bavdhan–Bhusari Colony ward. Pawar defeated NCP candidate Jayashree Marne in a closely watched race.
Her success highlights a broader trend across Pune. Several candidates emerged as first-time winners from various wards in this election cycle. All these winners will now take the oath as corporators. They become official members of the Pune Municipal Corporation's general body for the next five-year term.
New Faces Bring Fresh Energy to Civic Leadership
Pratik Kadam represents another first-time winner. He contested from the Upper Super Indiranagar ward under the NCP banner. Kadam and his supporters celebrated his victory after officials declared the results on Friday afternoon.
"I am overwhelmed by the win," Kadam stated. "I shall continue to work for the residents of my ward. I will fulfil all the assurances made to citizens ahead of the polls."
Major political parties actively supported new candidates. Leaders from both the BJP and the NCP confirmed their parties fielded several candidates contesting their first municipal elections.
A functionary from the BJP's city unit explained the strategy. "Many candidates fighting their first elections clinched victories from their respective wards," the functionary said. "The BJP has always expressed confidence in young candidates. This time, the party decided to give tickets to first-timers. We now expect all corporators to work towards city development and ward improvement."
