PM Modi Launches Assam Election Campaign with Stern Warning Against Congress
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially commenced his election campaign for the upcoming Assam assembly polls on Wednesday, delivering a forceful address in Gogamukh, Dhemaji district. In his speech, the Prime Minister issued a stark warning to voters, urging them to remain extremely vigilant against what he described as a dangerous political plot by the Congress party.
Accusations of a 'Dangerous Law' Revival
Modi specifically referenced the Communal Violence Bill that the previous Congress-led UPA government had attempted to implement before the 2014 general elections. "In that proposed legislation, the majority community was systematically held responsible for communal riots while minorities were always portrayed as victims," Modi stated emphatically. "The bill itself was fundamentally communal in nature. That is precisely why the BJP and NDA alliance fought vigorously and successfully prevented its passage through Parliament."
The Prime Minister revealed that Congress leaders in Assam are now openly discussing plans to introduce similar legislation in the state. "You have successfully liberated Assam from Congress's prolonged misrule," Modi told the gathered crowd. "However, you must remain exceptionally vigilant. Congress is currently engaged in playing a completely different political game. Their leaders in Assam are openly talking about implementing a dangerous law that threatens social harmony."
Historical Parallels and Current Allegations
Modi elaborated on his concerns, stating that he wants to "fully expose this calculated ploy of Congress." He explained that before the 2014 elections, the Congress-led central government had attempted to enact a communal violence law whose primary purpose was appeasement of their committed vote bank through divisive politics.
"Now, after twelve long years, Congress is announcing plans to bring the same kind of problematic legislation to Assam," Modi continued. "This is not merely my allegation—Congress leaders themselves are openly making these announcements in public forums. It has become absolutely clear that Congress is willing to do anything, regardless of consequences, to regain political power."
In one of his strongest criticisms, Modi declared that Congress has effectively transformed into "Muslim League and Maoist Congress." He drew historical parallels, stating, "Before India's Independence, the Muslim League played the destructive game of dividing our nation. Today, Congress is performing that same divisive work, threatening national unity and social cohesion."
Broader Accusations Against Congress
The Prime Minister expanded his critique to include several serious allegations against the opposition party. He accused Congress of "stabbing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's Constitution" by prioritizing family interests over public welfare and compromising Assam's essential identity elements—its 'aatma' (soul), 'shaan' (pride), 'pehchan' (identity), and 'suraksha' (security).
Modi further claimed that "Congress wants to protect foreigners in Assam and deliberately work to make the original sons and daughters of Assam a minority in their own land." He added, "We are all witnessing this unfolding crisis in numerous districts across Assam, where demographic changes threaten indigenous communities."
Highlighting BJP's Development Record
Contrasting his criticism of Congress with his party's achievements, Modi extensively highlighted the BJP's development record in Assam. He cited the distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers, the systematic eviction of encroachers from sattra and temple lands, and the construction of five bridges over the Brahmaputra River in just ten years—compared to only three bridges built during Congress's six decades of governance.
The Prime Minister also mentioned flood control projects worth Rs 1,800 crore and pointed to the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad as concrete proof of Assam's emerging industrial identity under BJP leadership.
BJP's Election Promises and Vision
Outlining the BJP's election manifesto, Modi promised higher daily wages for tea workers, increased construction of pucca houses, substantial job creation, and expanded self-employment opportunities across the state. He asserted that the "double-engine government"—with BJP in power at both state and central levels—would ensure that 40 lakh women become 'lakhpatis' (millionaires) while safeguarding tribal communities under the Sixth Schedule provisions.
Significantly, Modi confirmed plans to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Assam, framing it as essential for gender justice and national integration.

The Prime Minister framed the upcoming election as a decisive choice between "Vikas" (development) and "Virasat" (legacy of misrule).
