Patna Transport Department Enforces Mandatory HSRP Installation for All Vehicles
The transport department in Patna has issued a mandatory directive requiring all vehicles across the state to be equipped with High Security Registration Plates (HSRP). This significant measure aims to enhance vehicle identification, minimize the risks associated with tampering or duplication of number plates, prevent vehicle-related crimes, and bolster overall road safety and traffic enforcement efforts.
Urgent Call for Compliance and Database Updates
Department Secretary Raj Kumar has urged vehicle owners who have not yet installed HSRPs to do so immediately without any delay. These specialized plates can be obtained and fitted through authorized agencies or vehicle dealers approved by the department, ensuring a streamlined process for compliance.
During a recent departmental review meeting, Kumar highlighted a critical issue: while a substantial number of vehicles now physically carry HSRPs, the corresponding details have not been uploaded or updated in the department's central vehicle database, known as the VAHAN portal. "Due to this discrepancy, many such vehicle owners continue to receive SMS notifications on their registered cellphone numbers reminding them to install the HSRP—even though the plates have already been fixed," Kumar stated on Tuesday.
Steps to Resolve Notification Errors and Avoid Penalties
The department has clarified that vehicle owners receiving such messages after HSRP installation should not be alarmed. In these cases, owners are requested to visit their nearest District Transport Officer (DTO) office as soon as possible. There, officials will verify the physical presence of the HSRP on the vehicle and ensure that accurate details, including the HSRP number and installation date, are promptly entered into the official software system.
Kumar emphasized the importance of timely updates to HSRP information to prevent future difficulties. Failure to update records could lead to fines, suspension of online services related to the vehicle, or other enforcement measures stemming from outdated data.
Departmental Initiatives for Efficient Data Management
To address this issue efficiently, the department has issued instructions to all DTOs. They must actively identify vehicles where HSRPs have been fitted but are not yet reflected in the portal, carry out necessary verifications, and upload the correct data without delay. This proactive approach aims to synchronize physical installations with digital records, ensuring seamless enforcement and service delivery.
This enforcement underscores the state's commitment to leveraging technology for improved governance and public safety, setting a precedent for other regions to follow in enhancing vehicular security systems.
